Tekmar Energy secures £4 million Taiwan energy sector contracts

A marine engineering firm has secured two contracts worth around £4 million to support Taiwan’s burgeoning offshore wind sector.
Tekmar Energy says its flagship TEKLINK underwater cable protection system and associated accessories will be used to help develop energy production in the East Asian state.
Bosses say the agreements will help strengthen the company’s presence in the crucial Asian-Pacific region.
They added the contracts represent a further fillip for the business, with the Newton Aycliffe-based company having previously announced TEKLINK’s use on Taiwan’s Formosa 1 Phase 1 and Phase 2 wind farm projects.
James Ritchie, pictured left, chief executive of Tekmar Group, within which Tekmar Energy operates, said: “The Asia-Pacific offshore market is strategically important to us and Taiwan has high ambitions for offshore wind, targeting around 9GW of power by 2030.
“It’s worth noting that in 2018 Taiwan had no installed bases.
“These awards demonstrate our ability to secure and deliver to this emerging market and our commitment to the region as a whole.”
