Thornaby engineer K Home International celebrates 50th anniversary

An engineering firm is celebrating an operational milestone.

K Home International has clocked up half a century in business.

Founded in 1973 by Ken Home, the Thornaby company provides engineering design and project management services for industrial plants globally.

A holder of Queen’s Awards for export and enterprise, the firm is run by Ken’s sons Andrew and Michael following his retirement.

Michael said: “Dad established the company on firm foundations and set up a culture based on long-term success, rather than short-term gain, and it’s really paid off.

“To reach 50 years in business through several recessions, the banking crisis and a pandemic is a tribute and testament to all our staff throughout five decades.”

Ken added: “We still have the same culture, and are still owned and managed as a family firm.

“My philosophy has always been to keep up with the latest design technology to provide the best service to clients.

“This allows us to provide services in competition with companies many times our size.”

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the company will hold a family fun day for staff and their families over the summer.
