Tim Mallon joins Leathers LLP
April 20, 2017
Leathers is now looking to add a series of new positions to its team, based between its offices in Newcastle and Durham, with further growth already being planned by the business.
Tim, who moves to Leathers from his previous role as Head of Tax at Evolution, has enjoyed a lengthy career as one of the North East’s best-known and most highly-respected tax advisers.
Having qualified as a chartered accountant in 1987 in London, he returned to his native North East two years later, and has specialised in giving tax planning and wealth management advice to businesses, their owners and high net worth individuals.
Tim has known Michael Leather, founder and managing partner of Leathers, since they worked together at pwc, then known as Price Waterhouse, almost 30 years ago.
Having declined Michael’s offer to join him in his own newly-established start-up business back in 1990, Tim has now decided to move to join his former colleague three decades later.
He said: “This is a move I am very glad to have made. There is huge potential for Leathers. Over the past 27 years, Michael and the team have built up a strong reputation and very enviable client base, which gives us great foundations for developing the business from here. Michael has built up a great management team within the business. I had met some of them previously working on transactions and already held them in very high regard. Our initial discussions have already identified a wide range of new opportunities to grow our business and we will pursue these with relish,” he said.
“I want to challenge myself while pushing the business too, I want to help build something fantastic here. We have a great team already, but we want to develop that and are already looking to bring new people into Leathers from graduate level upwards.”
Michael Leather, managing partner of Leathers LLP, said: “Over the last 27 years, we have established our reputation as a strategic advisory firm which leads with tax. We treat every client as our only client and, historically, we haven’t shouted too much about how good we are.
“Tim’s strong technical capabilities mean that he will fit in well with the team. I made contact with Tim because I thought that his experience, combined with his drive and vision, would help me to lead the charge in developing Leathers even further. Tim quickly saw the opportunity and I think we will make a formidable team in growing our presence and client base in the North East and wider UK.”
