Universal Coatings & Services hails potential of ‘powerful’ Denholm Industrial Services partnership

A coatings firm has pledged to “bring new work and opportunities to the area” after agreeing a “landmark” partnership.

Teesside’s Universal Coatings & Services has joined forces with Denholm Industrial Services.

Bosses say the alliance will bolster delivery of coatings, blasting, scaffolding and rope access services to naval defence, energy and industrial facilities customers.

They also say it will boost employment prospects for existing and new staff through investment in “further training and career prospects”.

The deal – which has seen Yeovil-headquartered Denholm Industrial Services buy a 60 per cent share of Universal Coatings – follows a two-year supply chain relationship between the businesses.

Universal Coatings works across the engineering, petrochemical, subsea, offshore renewables and nuclear power sectors from Wilton Universal Group’s base beside the River Tees at Port Clarence, with Denholm Industrial Services supporting the build and maintenance of power, infrastructure and naval and commercial marine assets.

Bill Scott, Wilton Universal Group chief executive, said: “This is a landmark development of Tees Valley’s industrial supply chain capabilities and will bring new work and opportunities to the area.

“Integrating the companies’ services with Universal’s facilities, services and highly experienced local workforce, is a unique and powerful combination that will benefit customers of both businesses.”

Steve Hill, Denholm Industrial Services’ managing director, added: “Following two years as supply chain partners, it is the natural next step for Denholm Industrial Services to become a co-owner of Universal Coatings.

“Tees Valley has an exceptional reputation for its industrial capabilities, with forward-thinking companies like Universal Coatings building on the area’s heritage.

“We are very proud to play an active part in the future success of Tees Valley.”
