Wearside future living expo planned for 2023
October 15, 2020
Sunderland is to host an internationally significant future living expo in 2023.
One of a number of projects to be included in the Riverside Sunderland Masterplan – the blueprint for the development of Sunderland’s new urban quarter – the Future Living Expo will celebrate new homes being developed for 21st century living.
Organised in partnership with igloo Regeneration, the expo will be officially launched on Monday October 19, kicking off a five-day programme of webinar discussions that focus on key themes for the 2023 event.
The expo’s aim is to showcase new ways of living and how we can create sustainable communities that enable the people of Sunderland to lead healthy and fulfilling lifestyles.
Among other things, it will debate how housing in Sunderland – and around the world – will change as new construction technologies emerge and how modern methods of construction, green energy solutions and smart technology can be used to maximise benefits for people and businesses.
Councillor Graeme Miller, leader of Sunderland City Council, said: “We have a unique opportunity with Riverside Sunderland to develop homes that are world-leading, that respond to people’s rapidly-changing needs and that maximise new technology and innovation.
“The launch of Sunderland Future Living Expo is a chance to start – what we know will be – a fascinating discussion about how homes are changing and the ways in which Sunderland can deliver exciting new communities.
“The event – and indeed the launch itself – will attract the attention of luminaries from around the world, in the fields of architecture, urban regeneration and housing, as well as being attended by businesses keen to understand the opportunities our ground-breaking plans for homes on Riverside Sunderland will present.”
