YANA Active eyeing glory after national award shortlisting

An activewear company founded by two sisters is in the running for a national honour.

YANA Active has been shortlisted in the best activewear brand category in Balance Festival’s UK Wellness Awards.

It is up against international brands including Sweaty Betty and Lululemon for the accolade, with the result set to be announced later this year.

Established by Charlotte and Sophie Wilson in late 2019, Newcastle-based YANA makes sustainable women’s leggings, shorts and sports bras to empower what it calls a tribe of ‘Everyday Warriors’.

Using technology that is scientifically backed to reduce the appearance of cellulite, the business has already secured pop-ups in John Lewis and Fenwick, with further expansion in the planning.

Co-director Sophie said: “To be shortlisted is a huge compliment for us.

“And to be shortlisted against global brands such as Sweaty Betty and Lululemon shows we are a brand loved by our Everyday Warriors across the UK.

Fellow director Charlotte added: “We had a tough start to our business journey, with supplier issues and then COVID-19 impacts, but we’ve pulled ourselves back up and we’re set on shaking up the activewear industry.

“And being shortlisted is a huge step in that direction.

“We’re so excited to see where it could take us.”
