Property professionals to take part in rugby festival for St Oswald’s Hospice
May 17, 2019
Property professionals from across the North East and Scotland are joining forces as the North East Property Rugby Festival returns on Wednesday May 22nd to help raise funds for St Oswald’s Hospice.
The annual event, held at Northern Rugby Club in Gosforth, has quickly established itself as a major networking event for North East surveyors, lawyers, architects and a range of construction professionals.
This year’s event commences with a touch rugby tournament, much larger than previous years, as over a dozen firms take part including Naylors, Impeller, Knight Frank, Muckle LLP and Silverstone Building Consultancy.
A 15-a-side game between ‘The Jocks and The Geordies’ will follow at 3pm together with charity games and a prize draw.
Tickets for the North East Property Rugby Festival are currently on sale and event organisers have arranged food stalls and a bar to help keep the hundreds of spectators suitably refreshed on the day.
Douglas Cranston, partner at Knight Frank and committee member, commented: “After a fantastic event in 2018 when we raised over £10,800 for St Oswald’s, the event committee are very much looking forward to seeing if we can surpass that amount on May 22nd.
“The event itself offers a great platform for the property and construction industries to come together in a relaxed and entertaining environment whilst raising money for a fantastic cause. There are very few families locally whose lives have not been touched by the great work, support and care provided by St Oswald’s Hospice.
“We look forward to hosting our friends from north of the border and would like to thank all of the event sponsors, those who have generously made donations for our prize draw and everyone taking part in helping to make it another great event.”
Once again all money raised will be donated to St Oswald’s Hospice for the purchase of mobile sensory equipment in the Children’s Hospice. This is something that will be a great addition to the Gosforth-based charity who provide end-of-life care, bereavement support as well as invaluable support and respite care in the Children and Young Adults Service.
Laura Barrett, senior fundraiser at St Oswald’s Hospice, said: “The Rugby Festival was a great event last year. It was a lovely day with the sun shining and everyone was really enthusiastic about the day. The guys managed to raise so much and to see them aiming for the same target this year is incredible. It’s great to see people travelling from Scotland to take part as well, we honestly can’t wait!
“With the money raised going towards mobile sensory equipment, this will be a crucial bit of equipment for our Children’s Hospice as many of them can’t leave their beds or wheelchairs so often can’t visit the Sensory Room. This equipment will ensure they can benefit from all the sensory fun from the comfort of their own bedrooms in the unit.”
