TUI relaunches flights to Egypt from Newcastle Airport for 2020
December 4, 2019
Holiday company and airline TUI has announced that it will relaunch flights to Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt from Newcastle Airport as part of its Winter 2020 flight programme.
Winter sun seekers will be able to travel to the destination from the 7th November 2020, with weekly flights running every Saturday.
The news is significant as it’s one of the first times the region’s holidaymakers will have the opportunity to return to the Red Sea resort since the UK Government banned direct flights in 2015 due to safety concerns.
The operator also announced new routes to Hurghada in Egypt (every Friday) and Tunisia (every Monday), as well as 10 and 11-night holidays to Lanzarote, with the addition of a weekly flight on a Sunday for more flexibility.
TUI UK and Ireland’s director of aviation planning, Karen Switzer, said: “Earlier this month TUI announced its winter 2020 and summer 2021 holiday programme which has since expanded with more destinations and added flights.
“We are delighted that the additional flights provide holidaymakers departing from our regional airports with even more choice when deciding where to go away.
“The customer is at the heart of everything we do and this additional growth to some of our customer’s favourite holiday hotspots from Newcastle Airport demonstrates our continued commitment for people to discover their smile with us.”
Leon McQuaid, head of aviation development at Newcastle International Airport, added: “We are delighted that TUI have further expanded their destination portfolio with the addition of Sharm El Sheikh into their winter programme, as well as extending services to Hurghada and Tunisia.
“Tunisia and Egypt are extremely popular destinations due to the year-round sunshine, and we have received countless requests for services to Sharm El Sheikh — so it is great to see these popular winter sun destinations on offer to the North East travelling public.”
