Double Eleven expands into Asia with plans for a new development studio

Teesside-based games developer and publisher Double Eleven has announced plans to open a new development studio this Spring in Kuala Lumpur.

It is hoped that the expansion into Malaysia will transform Double Eleven into a significant international player, whilst also providing access to a high calibre talent pool.

The company has identified Malaysia as somewhere with ‘a great ecosystem’ between Government, universities and business.

Lee Hutchinson, founder and CEO of Double Eleven, said: “Great international talent, a burgeoning games community and active support from the Malaysian government, make it an easy decision to expand our operations into Kuala Lumpur.”

As well as access to new Asian markets and partnerships, the Malaysia studio will allow Double Eleven to operate across multiple time zones, bringing new products to market in a quicker timescale.

Lee continued: “We’re building Double Eleven Malaysia our way; it’s going to be a great place to work, and we’re looking forward to the new team there becoming part of our tribe.

“At the same time, we’re continuing to invest in our UK headquarters in Teesside and make key hires within our development and management teams.

“Our Malaysian studio will be there to bolster the incredible teams we have working in the UK. The Asian market is a huge player on the global stage, and we want to be at the vanguard of this exciting new hotbed of our industry.”

This announcement comes as Double Eleven are fast becoming one of the key providers of development and publishing services to the video games industry, with almost 100 staff based at its headquarters in Middlesbrough.

The Malaysia studio will open in Spring 2020, with the recruitment process beginning as early as February.
