Drain Doctor signs Armed Forces Covenant to reinforce commitment to UK Armed Forces community

In recognition of its commitment to help military veterans transition into the workplace, Drain Doctor Newcastle & Sunderland has signed the Armed Forces Covenant to pledge that Armed Forces personnel, veterans, reservists and their families will be treated fairly by the business.

Drain Doctor Newcastle & Sunderland is only the fifth plumbing and drainage specialist company in the country to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and the signing acknowledges the business’s continuing support of the armed forces community and understands the value of service they can bring to civilian life.

Jim Watson, Director of Drain Doctor Newcastle & Sunderland, said: “We are extremely proud of our Armed Forces and the work they do and it’s an honour to support them now as civilians as they supported us in uniform, serving Queen & country. Signing the Armed Forces Covenant publicly reinforces our commitment to ensuring that veterans, reservists, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, and their families will always be treated fairly at Drain Doctor.“

“As a business, we have always looked positively at employing former services personnel due to their transferable skills and take a proactive outlook to the recruitment of ex-service people.  We currently employ three ex-service personnel and they have been a real asset, as well as being hard-working and reliable.

“Our Drain Doctor team is taking part in an Army Reserve training day in March and we are all looking forward to having a taste of army life and going outside our comfort zone.  By showing our support, we will hopefully encourage other local organisations to sign up in the future.”

David Eccles, Assistant Regional Employer Engagement Director for the North of England (MOD), said: “I welcome Drain Doctor Newcastle & Sunderland into the growing number of organisations who have signed their Armed Forces Covenant across the North of England Being recognised as Forces Friendly means that Drain Doctor Newcastle & Sunderland can attract highly skilled, well trained professionals from the Armed Forces community and add real value to their business.”

The Armed Forces Covenant is a whole nation moral obligation that the members of our Armed Forces, together with their families, should not face any disadvantage compared to other citizens in the provision of public and commercial services.

To become a signatory, Drain Doctor made several pledges that support the aims of the covenant, including promoting Drain Doctor as an Armed Forces-friendly organisation, supporting the employment of veterans and accommodating their training where possible.
