Emma Gillespie appointed to board of Young Enterprise North East

Emma Gillespie, account manager at Newcastle-based Activ Technology, has been appointed to the local volunteer board of Young Enterprise North East.

A national charity that motivates young people to succeed in the changing world of business by equipping them with the work, skills and confidence that they need, Young Enterprise has strong roots across the region.

Each year it works with 315,000 pupils and trains 3,200 teachers in both enterprise and financial education, with the help of more than 6,000 volunteers and 3,500 businesses.

Emma, said: “Activ Technology is passionate in its support for developing talented young people and has actively encouraged me to pursue an initiative that really motivates and inspires me.

“I have a long-standing relationship with Young Enterprise having previously been a business advisor for two years and I helped to take two ambitious companies to the national finals.

“I also took part in Young Enterprise myself at school and I want to pass on my knowledge to young, inspiring entrepreneurs.

“I am delighted to be appointed to the local volunteer board, it is a great opportunity for me to learn and share ideas with inspiring individuals who are equally as passionate as myself about unlocking the talent we have in the North East.”

Kerry Tipple, area manager, Northumberland and Tyne and Wear at Young Enterprise, said: “Emma is a great addition to the local volunteer board of Young Enterprise North East, she is passionate about the scheme and wants to make a real difference.

“Emma recently judged a regional event where five different student companies ran a venture with the support of a local volunteer business advisor for the duration of the academic year.  The purpose of the programme is to help develop employability skills and, ultimately, give them confidence in their own abilities.

“Emma is a real life case study, a young, ambitious individual who took part in Young Enterprise and is putting her skill-set into action.”
