A North East manufacturer helping change the way homes are built has secured a significant business win.
Apex Core, which designs, develops and makes prefabricated utility cupboards – a central hub for a property’s heating, ventilation, electrical, communication and metering services – is working with Imtech Engineering Services.
The company will supply 480 units to the 212 Broadstreet development – the largest residential tower in Birmingham – and bosses say they expect to pick up further agreements in the coming months.
The contract represents a major win for the firm, which is based on the outskirts of Durham City, having only launched at the start of 2020.
Parent company Apex Wiring Solutions assembled a team of industry specialists and invested more than £500,000 to create the UK’s largest utility cupboard manufacturing facility.
Dave and Mike Lewis, Apex Wiring Solutions’ directors, welcomed the order and said interest in the product has been significant.
Dave said: “We knew there was a market for these incredible pieces of kit, but even so the interest in the Apex Core products has been overwhelming.
“They are products that save time, manpower, waste and increase safety, but given how simple they are to ‘plug-in’, they also offer a neat solution to social distancing issues, with only one person required to install each element of the system.
“The utility cupboards are built to exacting specifications, accommodating control systems for whatever is required, be that underfloor heating, an electrical circuit box or water pipes.
“They can also house washing machines, dishwashers – anything the client needs.
“Our products save time, reduce waste, cost less and are safer…and provide a silver bullet for the Government in its bid to address the housing crisis and build more homes, particularly starter homes.”
The new Apex Core team is made up of contracts manager James Moore, production manager Paul Cooper and production supervisor Kaspars Netlis.
Mike said: “James, Paul and Kaspars have pioneered this technology in their previous roles and we’re already seeing the benefits of tapping into their expertise and knowledge.
“They are the masters of the industry and we know this latest contract will be one of many.”
James added: “This contract is a demonstration of not only how hungry the construction industry is for time and energy-saving solutions, but how much of an impact the Core product has had since we launched.”
