Gentoo Group appoints new development director

Sunderland-based housing association Gentoo Group has appointed a new development director.

Joanne Gordon joins Gentoo after previously holding a strategic role at Home Group where she oversaw development opportunities across the UK.

Joanne will be responsible for the delivery of Gentoo’s £117 million affordable homes plan, which aims to deliver 900 additional homes for rent in Sunderland via a mixture of new build and existing properties.

These homes are expected to be delivered by 2024, utilising the £4 million surplus generated by Gentoo Homes to help subsidise the programme.

Nigel Wilson, group chief executive officer, said: “Gentoo is committed to meeting the housing needs of local people and this is clearly evident by the recent launch of our ambitious affordable homes plan.

“I’m delighted to welcome Joanne to the team and look forward to working together to address the shortage of affordable rented homes in Sunderland.”

Speaking of her appointment as Gentoo’s new development director, Joanne added: “I’m really pleased to be joining Gentoo at what is such an exciting time.

“I’m grateful to have been given the task of delivering the Group’s new affordable homes plan and am really looking forward to making a difference to housing supply in Sunderland.”
