GiveToLocal has been given the green light to take on 28 new starters this year after pledging to play its part in getting the North East’s young people back into work.
The Tyneside-based sports tech innovator has joined the government’s much-heralded Kickstart Scheme — a fully-funded programme aimed at upskilling 18-24-year-olds.
GiveToLocal is concurrently seeking to fill a further four senior roles as the organisation grows in line with this spring’s long-awaited return to community sport.
And the senior management team continues to work alongside specialist external consultants as part of an ongoing programme of improvements aligned to ambitious growth plans.
The Kickstart Scheme was launched by chancellor Rishi Sunak last summer and offers young people receiving Universal Credit the opportunity to work for approved organisations and businesses for a six-month period.

“There are more than 700,000 young people receiving universal credit right now and the more organisations and businesses that can offer them a way back into work the better.

The Kickstart Scheme is underpinned by £2 billion of government funding and aims to help thousands of young people get back into work between now and the summer of 2022.
Host organisations are supported through the application process — and with ongoing training for their employees — by gateway providers including Harsav Group.
And treasury chiefs hope the scheme will lead to apprenticeships or permanent roles for those people who have proved their potential at the end of the six-month placement.

GiveToLocal’s decision to join the Kickstart Scheme coincides with the recruitment of senior staff across the organisation.
Plans are in place to expand several departments in a bid to meet the demand for an innovative service that provides community sports clubs with a fee-free fundraising platform.
And there will be more opportunities for community focused businesses to connect with new local customers and other businesses regionally and nationally.
