Leathers triumphs at Accountancy Awards

Leathers, which has offices in Newcastle and Durham, was named as Accountancy Firm of the Year (under 50 employees) at the North East Accountancy Awards, held on June 28.

Judges were impressed by the firm’s expertise, client-focused approach and its recent growth and development, in what was the first time Leathers had ever entered the awards.

The firm, founded almost 30 years ago by managing partner Michael Leather works with businesses and private clients throughout the UK and overseas. The vast majority of its work comes from referral.

Leathers has seen strong growth recently, with a 25 per cent increase in turnover last year and a number of key appointments at all levels of the business, including bringing in highly-respected Tim Mallon as development director.

The annual North East Accountancy Awards, held at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead, recognise and reward outstanding work in the accountancy sector by individual advisors and firms across the region. The winners are chosen following interviews with each shortlisted firm by an independent judging panel.

Michael Leather said: “Over three decades, we have become the trusted advisor to businesses and families across the UK and around the world, and have established ourselves as one of the most highly esteemed accountancy firms in the North of England.

“While we may not always have sought public recognition for our work, we have won the respect and admiration of our peers along the way for our direct, strategic advice which helps businesses to grow.

“We are absolutely delighted to have won this award – particularly as these are the first awards we have entered – which is an endorsement of our work and expertise, but importantly it is recognition for our team and the huge efforts they make every day on behalf of our clients.

“We are immensely proud to be recognised in this way.”
