NETPark tech firm Filtronic secures £1 million-plus defence deal

A County Durham technology firm has secured a defence deal worth more than £1 million.

Filtronic will supply battlefield radio communications to an unnamed customer over a 12-month period.

Bosses at the company, based on NETPark, in Sedgefield, County Durham, say the agreement, which will see the business deliver a “challenging and complex programme”, leaves it “well positioned to win further UK defence contracts”.

Under the terms of its deal, Filtronic will develop and validate a prototype solution, which will then transition into low volume manufacturing.

Final product delivery is expected to start in the second half of 2021.

Chief executive Richard Gibbs said: “We are delighted to have secured this significant new order as it underlines the customer’s confidence in our ability to deliver this type of challenging and complex programme.

“With our deep understanding of radio frequency communication and our in-house design and manufacturing facility, it is pleasing to start the calendar year with a contract win for both a new product and new customer.

“Filtronic is well positioned to win further UK defence contracts.”
