New multi-million pound student development planned for Newcastle

Silverstone Building Consultancy is to manage the creation of a scheme to bring 100 new student bedrooms to Newcastle.

The chartered surveyors and project management firm has been chosen to lead on the project by Leicestershire-based developer Bonham Real Estate Ltd.

Bonham also owns the site on the corner of New Bridge Street and Clarence Street, close to the Northumbria University City Campus East.

The scheme will see the demolition of the existing buildings, which were occupied by retail and office premises to make way for the six-storey development incorporating 37 studios and 63 cluster flats, each with four to six bedrooms.

Louise Stewart, director at Silverstone Building Consultancy said: “Our local knowledge and experience enables us to give our client complete piece of mind, particularly as they’re based outside the region.

“Our practical and proactive management approach will ensure risks are spotted and mitigated at the earliest opportunity to ensure the scheme is successfully delivered, on time and on budget, ready to provide a home away from home for our region’s students.”

Designed by Sadler Brown architects, the 18-month project will also involve Surgo Construction (Surgo) as the main contractor.

Martin Blight, director, at Surgo said: “It’s brilliant to have started work on this high-profile scheme, and to be part of a great delivery team bringing it to life.

“We look forward to again working together with Silverstone Building Consultancy to create state-of-the-art accommodation that will offer residents the best possible quality of student living.”
