New solicitor joins Watson Burton’s Corporate team

Newcastle-headquartered commercial law firm Watson Burton has strengthened its Corporate team with the appointment of Sophie Robertson as solicitor.

Sophie was offered the position upon completion of her training contract with the company after she demonstrated exceptional capabilities during the course of the firm’s two-year Graduate Training Programme.

Sophie graduated from Newcastle University in 2013 with a degree in English Language, before completing a graduate diploma in law (GDL) at Northumbria University in 2015. This enabled her to convert to an LPC at Northumbria University which she completed in 2016.

The Corporate team has a range of experience across acquisitions and disposals, management buyouts, venture capital and share schemes. It has specialist expertise of supporting businesses and investors in sectors including financial services, technology and education.

The Corporate team was described by Legal 500 (2019), as ‘strong and well balanced’ and is praised for its ‘very good service’.

Duncan Reid, partner and head of Corporate at Watson Burton, said: “We were impressed with the work ethic and enthusiasm that Sophie brought to the team. It was quickly recognised that she has the talent to be an excellent solicitor and would complement the skills of the team.

“Watson Burton has a strong track record of developing the careers of graduates and we take pride in nurturing the talent of up-coming solicitors such as Sophie.”

Commenting on her appointment, Sophie Robertson, solicitor at Watson Burton, said: “It’s fantastic to have been offered the position with the Corporate team as I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them and learnt a lot from the experience of the team members.

“The training scheme Watson Burton has in place is fantastic – by being able to work across the key practice areas, I was able to gain a comprehensive grounding in the firm’s work and valuable experience in client management.

“The transition from trainee to solicitor has been smooth as I’ve had great support from the team. I am looking forward to developing my career with Watson Burton.”
