North East woman entrepreneur of the year award launched

The region’s female entrepreneurs and business leaders are being urged to enter the annual awards aimed at celebrating their achievements.

The Annual North East Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (WIN) will bring together high-flying women from a variety of sectors across the North East in November when the winners are announced.

Judges, Leisa Docherty from Sage UK, Jayne Dolder from Bazaar Group (last year’s North East Woman Entrepreneur of the Year), James Ramsbotham, North East England Chamber of Commerce, Kerrin Smith of Durham Constabulary and Nickie Gott of She’s Gott It! and Chair of WIN Ltd are looking for trailblazers and leaders who have particularly excelled in their particular fields.

Nickie Gott, WIN Chair and owner of She’s Gott It Events said: “We have found women are often reluctant to put themselves forward for awards but when they do, the benefits are huge. Last year’s business winners have really reaped the rewards of the increased profile and boost of having their achievements recognised formally.”

Ross Smith, Chamber director of policy said: “We are delighted to be supporting these awards again.  Women business leaders are an absolutely fundamental to our region’s success.  In the Chamber we have a Women’s Advisory Board to ensure we do everything in our power to encourage female entrepreneurs such as sharing business challenges which have been overcome and their achievements.

There are categories for both entrepreneurs and leading lights in the region’s businesses with awards for: North East Woman Entrepreneur of the Year, Best Small Business, Best New Business, Best Home Based Business, Best Creative Business, Young Entrepreneur, STEM, Leadership, Apprentice, Heart of the Community, Innovation and Service (other categories to be added).  These categories are aimed at reflecting the current economic climate and supporting growth in key sectors in the North East for women in business.

Tickets to attend this year’s North East Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Awards evening on Friday November 11th are £85 + VAT and include drinks reception, a 3-course meal and live entertainment.
