Northumberland Estates has announced a new deal with two major retailers that will see Northumberland Retail Park in North Tyneside take a major step forward this summer.
Over the past 12 months, Northumberland Estates has made significant progress on the expansion of the retail park in Shiremoor and now that planning permission has been approved, it is hope that it will become a key North East retail destination.
Already open on site are a Toby Carvery, an Aldi and a drive-thru Costa and it’s now been agreed that a new B&M with ancillary garden centre will be added as well as a gym from the leisure arm of sports retailer, JD.
Talk about the potential of the site, Anthony Cape, asset manager at Northumberland Estates, said: “Shiremoor and the surrounding area is an increasingly desirable residential location and there are currently around 750 homes under construction with a further 2,000 planned on land next to Northumberland Retail Park.
“The ease of access to the A19 makes it a very popular position for a wide range of retailers and leisure operators. We are confident that we can build on our recent success to establish Northumberland Park as one of the region’s major retail destinations.”
Property consultants Barker Proudlove and Savills are currently marketing three further retail units with the potential to add 25,000sq ft. of retail space to the site.
Mark Proudlove, director at Barker Proudlove, said: The retail sector is going through a period of transition at the moment and the high street in particular is having a difficult time.
“However, retail parks such as Northumberland Park are proving to be an attractive proposition thanks to their ease of access and the ability for developers to provide modern open plan units which can be customised to suit individual occupier requirements.”
