Our Mind’s Work grows client list with diploma launch

A workplace mental health consultancy has secured a raft of new clients following a step change in operations.

Our Mind’s Work is now supporting operators including Amazon, Nissan and Sofology after launching what it says is the UK’s only levy fund accredited mental health leadership apprenticeship.

Delivered in partnership with The Opportunity Group, the Leadership Mental Health Diploma is centred around introducing watershed change to workplace mental health.

The diploma was launched in March last year but due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, was re-launched in June for virtual delivery.

Emily Pearson [pictured below], founder of Byker-based Our Mind’s Work, said: “The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 brought major challenges to many businesses including mine, which has had to transform and adapt to keep supporting mental health at work.

“We redesigned our delivery model from face-to-face to fully online and enabled current and new clients to prioritise this work by having access to online packages and provide access to the services to colleagues outside of the UK.

“Poor leadership and management can either be the number one cause of poor mental health in the workplace or the number one cause of a mentally healthy workplace that thrives.

“The quality of managers and leaders in a business is everything right now as we navigate our way through the challenges the pandemic has brought.

“Until creating this programme, management apprenticeships provided no knowledge, tools or behaviours to focus on mentally healthy leadership, and the benefits to a workplace that can foster a mentally healthy culture.”

And she says she is proud of the response of her team to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the support they have provided, which is continuing to highlight the importance of strong workplace mental health practice.

She adds: “Like all businesses in the UK, indeed across the world, we’ve been very concerned about the impact of the pandemic and the resultant lockdown, particularly on the mental health of employees; but significantly it’s how it has intruded on every part of our lives, which has raised the stakes for good workplace mental health cultures and practices.”

National DIY group Dormole, Ouseburn-based marketing firm Silverbean, and homeless charity Changing Lives, which has its head office in Gateshead, are also using their levy fund to put staff through Our Mind’s Work’s diploma.
