Summers-Inman director takes on national role with IOSH

Newcastle-based property consultancy firm Summers-Inman is celebrating the success of one of its senior team members.

Malcolm Shiels, who has been with the firm since 2006, has been promoted to director and was recently appointed national chair of the construction group within the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

His promotion to director of Summers-Inman reflects the roles he has held on large-scale projects like the £200 million Building Schools for the Future programme in Newcastle, as well as projects for Go Ahead Plc across the UK.

More recently, Malcolm has played a key role working on Newcastle Helix, supporting colleagues on the management of various contracts with the development.

Speaking about his promotion, Malcolm said: “I was over the moon to be told about my promotion to director.  I feel very valued – although my role will not change substantially, as I was already involved in most aspects of the business – but I definitely feel a sense of greater responsibility.

“Looking to the future, I will be continuing to place health and safety wellbeing at the heart of the business, across a wide range of industry sectors to ensure that clients see us not only as a first-rate construction partner but as a provider of real value.”

The IOSH has 47,000 members worldwide, of which 15,600 are part of the construction group which Malcolm now chairs nationally.

In this role, he will act as a conduit for partnering with various institutions and professional membership organisations.
