Troo heads to Sunderland to manage growth in customer demand

A business energy services company has relocated to Sunderland with a viewing to scaling up for further growth and creating new jobs.

Energy comparison service Troo has moved from Newcastle into a 10,000 sq ft unit at Doxford International Business Park.

The company is aiming to double its current headcount of 30 in the next 12 months, while also doubling turnover.

Within two to three years, staffing numbers at Troo could rise to around 120.

Andrew Richardson, CEO and founder of Troo, said: “Our national growth is being driven by business customers who appreciate our transparent approach to fees and our ability to show what they should be paying for energy against what they have been paying.

“More recently, we have been doing well because we’ve helped many of our customers – large and small – through this particularly difficult pandemic year either by securing savings or renegotiating existing arrangements.”

Troo launched in 2018 with the aim of disrupting the energy brokerage industry through transparent pricing.

It continues to grow with the support of funding through the North East Venture Fund, managed by Mercia Fund Management.

The latest investment has enabled the company to launch Troo Assure – a customer advice service helping with issues such as new meter connections, energy savings, interruption of service and compliance.

Andrew added: “The support from Mercia has been critical to our continued growth and success. The development of Troo Assure is allowing us to offer energy as a service.

“We provide business customers with a dedicated support team to deal with all their energy needs, from billing queries to energy savings advice.

“This added value we’re able to offer businesses is proving to be very attractive and particularly in this current market when everyone is trying to achieve savings.”
