Ascent Homes: Six stunning places to live in Northumberland

With its breathtaking coastline, picturesque country idylls and vibrant market towns, Northumberland is widely recognised as one of the best places to live in the UK. So, if you are considering a new home in the county, here are six attractive locations that you need to know about…

Wooler

Lying on the edge of Northumberland National Park and at the foot of the Cheviot Hills, Wooler is unsurprisingly a favourite spot for walkers and day trippers. Residents can embrace the natural beauty that’s on their doorstep… and they can also take in the traditional pubs, modern restaurants and speciality shops that are found in the stone-built town. Close to Wooler is Ford and Etal Estate, where visitors can experience a light railway, corn mill, bakery and Etal Castle.

Ellington

A quintessential picture postcard location, Ellington is steeped in history (it was first recorded as a village in 1240!) and is just minutes away from the beautiful Cresswell Bay. Close to Cresswell beach and the stunning nature reserve at Druridge Bay, the village offers plenty of local charm and amenities. It also has good transport links to the nearby towns of Morpeth and Ashington.

Alnwick

Alnwick – home to the tourism hotspots of Alnwick Castle and Alnwick Garden – was recently named by The Sunday Times as one of the best places to live in Northern England.

It’s a thriving market town, with a wealth of boutiques, restaurants, pubs and other attractions, and has great transport links via the A1.
