Carney Consultancy helping Surgo Construction build health and safety practices

An advisory firm is helping a builder lay foundations for long-term health and safety success.

Carney Consultancy is working with Surgo Construction.

The North Shields-based operator, led by senior health and safety consultant Sarah James, is ensuring the builder and its supply chain complies with ever-changing regulations.

Sarah said: “We have built a strong working relationship with the site management team, who we meet on a monthly basis.

“And we are also managing Surgo’s sub-contractor database to ensure any company wanting to work with it goes through pre-qualification questions we provide.”

Martin Blight, pre-construction director at Newcastle-based Surgo Construction – which is working on a £9 million contract to create more than 20 executive homes on Yarm’s former Tall Trees nightclub site – praised Carney Consultancy’s impact.

He added: “The safety and wellbeing of our employees is our number one priority, and Carney Consultancy has a proactive approach.

“The team keeps abreast of changes to policies and procedures, provides up-to-date knowledge on funding opportunities and is always on hand to offer compliance guidance.”

Carney Consultancy previously won the people development honour at the Constructing Excellence North East Awards.
