Historic Ouseburn site transformed into luxury townhouses

Part of a former ropery site in Ouseburn has been transformed into a new development of seven four-storey townhouses.

Built by Modo Bloc and marketed by Hive Estates, The Ropes consist of three-bedroom, three-bathroom homes with features like floor-to-ceiling windows, exposed brickwork and private terraces with views of the River Tyne.

The site, originally part of the St. Lawrence Rope Works, was founded in the 18th Century and played a crucial role in the region’s shipbuilding and ropemaking industries.

The ropery was known for producing wire ropes, including those used in the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Michael Mortimer, Hive Estates managing director, said: “This development is unique not just because of its design but because it pays homage to Ouseburn’s industrial heritage.

“Working closely with Modo Bloc, we have worked hard to preserve the heritage of the area with industrial-scandi interior design while also offering something exciting for today’s buyers.

“It’s a special project and we’re thrilled to see the positive response it’s already receiving, with sales already agreed.”

The new homes, of which two have already been sold, will be launched at a special preview event on Friday November 1 from 3pm to 6.30pm at the development with local businesses, those involved in the project and interested buyers able to see the completed development.
