JDR Cable Systems powers on with French contract

A subsea cable maker has hailed its “trusted capabilities” after securing a French deal.

JDR Cable Systems is supplying power lines to the Eolmed project.

Based off the southern French coast, officials say the wind turbine scheme will provide  power for 50,000 residents.

JDR will make cable cores at a Polish plant, before completing final assembly and testing at its Hartlepool factory.

John Price, JDR sales director, said: “This project underscores our trusted capabilities in the burgeoning floating offshore wind sector.

“As the market leader in dynamic cable technology, and with extensive experience in the wind sector, this contract is an opportunity for our expert team to provide their full suite of skills and knowledge, delivering complete system analysis, manufacturing and testing of the dynamic cables.

“With water depths getting deeper and analysis becoming more complex, innovations in dynamic cables such as ours will be critical to meet rising demand.”

The contract comes as building work continues on a new JDR factory in Cambois, near Blyth.

Officials say the 170-job plant, which is earmarked to open next year, will expand the business’ product range in the global renewable energy market.
