PD Ports adds steel to operations with Hartlepool terminal investment

A dock operator says it has strengthened its position as “the port of choice for global steel manufacturers” after completing a terminal upgrade.

PD Ports has opened a specialist storage hub at Port of Hartlepool.

Bosses say the 75,000sq ft base will transform operator delivery programmes and costs, with different products, such as steel coil, plate, beams and pipes, able to be discharged on to the same berth.

They added the terminal – which has already welcomed vessels from Brazil, Germany and Turkey – has created three jobs and secured “a number of existing roles”.

Hailing the promise of the building, which was previously used to support the oil and gas industries, Roy Merryweather, PD Ports’ general manager – business development, called it a “significant investment”.

He added: “It will open up access to the best quality steel available internationally, including many grades not made in the UK.

“It offers flexible options for customers looking to ship steel products in and out of the port, and strengthens our position as the port of choice for global steel manufacturers.”
