PD Ports drives forward green agenda with van delivery

A port operator has boosted its sustainability drive with delivery of a green vehicle.

PD Ports is using an all-electric van across its Teesport base.

The van, which will form a trio of zero-carbon vehicles in an initial rollout, builds on work to electrify the site’s rubber-tyred gantry cranes.

Bosses say the changes will help PD Ports achieve its carbon neutrality targets by 2027.

Frans Calje, chief executive, said: “Decarbonisation is such a prominent and important part of our agenda.

“There is no denying we operate within a sector typically reliant on heavy industry, and that is why we place such importance on researching, developing and implementing ways to keep our environmental impact to an absolute minimum.

“By investing in sustainable practices such as electric vehicles, we continue to make great progress towards building a more sustainable future for ourselves and our communities.”

He added 70 per cent of the port’s rubber-tyred gantry crane fleet has been converted to electric power, with remaining changes due to be completed this year.
