RWO nets Wallsend sporting complex contract

A civil and structural engineering firm has scored work on a £4 million sports scheme.

RWO is supporting the development of St Peter’s Playing Fields, in Wallsend.

The Seaton Burn company is providing structural design, drainage and civils services to help create a pavilion, changing rooms, community space and floodlit 5G playing pitches.

The base will open next year and operate as the headquarters of the Northumberland Football Association and Wallsend RFC.

It will also act as a community development hub for football and a training venue for Wallsend Centurions and Eagles rugby league clubs.

Ross Oakley, RWO managing director, said: “Our knowledge and experience in the sector will ensure we provide a top-class facility for the local community.

“Our commercial offer continues to grow, and we will see even more success this year winning new contracts across the region and the UK.”

The St Peter’s Playing Fields project has been backed by £1.9 million from the Football Foundation, £375,000 from the Football Association, £50,000 from the Rugby Football League and housing developer contributions to North Tyneside Council.
