Software firm Clixifix focused on growth after Smartcraft deal

A firm behind construction sector management software is eyeing growth following a takeover.

Clixifix has been bought by Smartcraft ASA.

Bosses say the move will allow Houghton-le-Spring-based Clixifix to develop new products and “provide more leading-edge, scalable solutions”, while bolstering Smartcraft’s growth across the UK and Europe.

Boasting more than 20,000 users, Clixifix’s software is used by construction companies and property owners to manage defects, complaints and repairs.

James Farrell, Clixifix chief executive, said: “We are really looking forward to becoming part of Smartcraft.

“With its strong track record of building great software companies and a broad portfolio of best-of-breed software-as-a-service solutions for the construction industry, we truly think it’s a great home for Clixifix.”

The business was previously backed by Newcastle-based investment house Northstar Ventures from the North East Accelerator Fund and latterly the North East Innovation Fund.

James said: “We are extremely grateful for the investment and support from Northstar Ventures.

“Its investments at an early stage were crucial in enabling us to scale our services and platform capabilities.

“Northstar was also a constant source of practical advice and fantastic introductions to people in its network.”

Tom O’Neill, Northstar Ventures’ investment manager, added: “We are delighted with Smartcraft’s acquisition of Clixifix, which represents a great opportunity for the business to continue to build on its market-leading offering.

“It has been eight years since we initially invested in Clixifix, and the business has scaled significantly and continued to develop its impressive product offering.”
