Work begins on Newcastle’s 1 Citygate to deliver ‘best-in-class’ office space

A city centre office building will soon provide “best-in-class” work space after the start of a major refurbishment programme, bosses have said.

Catella APAM has kickstarted redevelopment of Newcastle’s 1 Citygate.

The real estate asset manager says the renovation will deliver open plan office suites, desks and meeting rooms, break-out areas and kitchen space.

The work is expected to be finished in March next year.

Andrew Day, Catella APAM senior asset manager, said: “1 Citygate is in an excellent location, situated at the top of St James’ Boulevard.

“Our significant investment, to offer best-in-class office provision, reflects the continuing demand for good value, high-quality accommodation.”

Property agent Michael Downey, director at Parker Knights, added: “Across the city, we’re seeing improved demand for better quality office space.

“We believe 1 Citygate sets a new standard for refurbished offices in the North East, proving that you don’t need to build from the ground up to offer high-quality office space, not to mention the benefits to the environment of not undergoing a full demolition and construction programme.

“With a current lack of supply of Grade A space throughout the city, it’s no surprise we’ve already received a strong amount of interest.”
