Developing the talent of the future

Newcastle-based Activ Technology has appointed two apprentices to its team.

The company is committed to encouraging young talent and has developed the careers of many of its workforce, some of whom have been with the company for 20 years.

Activ Technology is a managed service provider for IT and telecommunications and supplies services to the North East of England and Scotland.

18-year-old, Lauren Robison, from Whickham, is a business admin apprentice who will study for a Northern Skills level two qualification at Middlesbrough College and 18-year-old Harry Young from West Denton, Newcastle, has recently completed his level three trail blazer apprenticeship with IT training provider, QA.

Managing director at Activ Technology, Ian Gillespie, said: “I would like to warmly welcome Lauren and Harry, who are both at various stages in their career development.

“Creating apprenticeships and introducing young people into the business is vital. We believe we have a responsibility to develop the next generation of skilled workers.

“Both Lauren and Harry have a desire and determination to learn more and progress their careers. We want to attract and retain high quality apprentices and, upon successful completion of their training, offer them a full time job.”

Lauren, said: “I am really enjoying my time at Activ Technology having undertaken work experience with the team. I begin my one year apprenticeship in September, combining my course at Middlesbrough College with on-the-job training within the company’s account management team.

“I will study at college for one day a fortnight which I am really looking forward to. I have settled in very well and I am seeking to qualify at the end of my year as an internal account manager.”

Harry, said: “I recently completed my apprenticeship and I am deciding whether I would like to advance my career further by undertaking a degree course through Open University whilst being supported by the company or to go straight into the role of first line engineer.

“I work with the IT team and my role is predominantly on the IT help desk where I receive calls from customers and look to help them with any queries.

“There is a good progression plan for me and the team is very supportive. I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone looking to progress into their career of choice.”
