North East clinician supports first major knowledge summary of COVID-19 for GPs in England

A North East clinician has authored the first major clinical knowledge summary about COVID-19 for general practitioners in England.

Dr Gerry Morrow of Clarity Informatics has been providing evidence-based clinical information to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), which has recently published its Clinical Knowledge Summaries document.

NICE has been helping GPs, GP registrars, paramedics, nurses and pharmacists to treat common conditions and symptoms for over 20 years and the latest publication is a response to the need for clear guidance on the COVID-19 outbreak and how to manage the potentially infected.

As medical director of North East firm Clarity Informatics, Dr Morrow leads a team of clinicians and researchers with over 20 years’ experience of providing clinical guidance and resources.

The COVID-19 section of the Clinical Knowledge Summaries is designed to support primary care professionals with readily accessible information at a time when the UK epidemic is accelerating.

The Clinical Knowledge Summaries from NICE contain more than 370 topics and 1000 clinical presentations or patient scenarios.

All content is devised from rigorously researched evidence, developed using NICE-accredited processes and requirements.

Dr Morrow said: “The world is currently facing an unprecedented global pandemic outbreak and it is important that primary care, which is the first point of contact for many of those affected by the COVID-19 virus, have clear advice on how to manage their patients in these difficult times.
