Specialist neurological care home offered to NHS

North East-based Chase Park Neuro Centre has offered to help fight the COVID-19 crisis by offering vacant beds to the NHS.

Chase Park, which is situated in Whickham, has a suite of 30 vacant beds in high quality single rooms in a separate building on site. These beds are being made available for use by the NHS, local hospitals or local authorities to help during the current COVID-19 crisis, in turn freeing up space in hospitals for critical care beds.

Chase Park provides rehabilitation services to people with neurological and long-term nursing conditions. Rated ‘Good’ by the CQC, the management team has a unique skill mix combining nursing leadership, neurological care and ITU experience as well as safeguarding expertise.

Dr Niraj Brahmabhatt, director of Chase Park Neuro Centre, said: “Chase Park’s management team is aiming to be proactive so that we can plan care and staffing arrangements in advance of any peak in demand, should the NHS and council require extra bed capacity. Our rooms are in excellent condition, with the majority having en-suite wet rooms and are among the most pleasant rooms available in any healthcare setting in the North East.

“Our therapy team and facilities on site allows intermediate care or rehabilitation to be provided as well as neurological care for clients with complex needs. Uniquely, we are able to successfully care for clients with respiratory needs often arising from injury or neurological conditions including those with tracheostomies. There is also a café, gym and hydro-pool facilities on site.”

Supporting adults of all ages, abilities and disabilities, Chase Park’s purpose is to promote service users’ wellbeing and to work with them to ensure their best interests are respected, while assisting adults requiring long term nursing needs as well as those moving back into independent living after a period of rehabilitation.

Niraj added: “There have been several successful recent cases which have received care and transitioned back into supported or community living, following significant improvements in their condition and functional abilities. We want to support the NHS and North East where possible during this critical time and do our bit to help the response to the Covid-19 pandemic, there is a real sense of the ‘Dunkirk spirit’ amongst the Chase Park team.”
