NETPark’s Kromek Group secures US security equipment deal
January 11, 2023
A technology firm behind kit used to foil terror plots has secured a £650,000 contract.
Kromek Group is supplying its flagship wearable nuclear radiation detector equipment to a US government customer.
Known as D3S, and used by first responders, armed forces and border security services, the pocket-sized apparatus is capable of identifying threats such as ‘dirty bombs’.
The deal marks a repeat customer order for the Sedgefield-based business, and complements two agreements worth a combined £1.5 million, and a near £5 million contract to provide “biological threat detection systems” to UK security services, which were signed late last year.
Dr Arnab Basu, chief executive [pictured, above], said: “This repeat order affirms the importance of our nuclear radiation detection technology, and the strength of our relationship with our US governmental customers.
“We are continuing to see heightened interest, particularly from governments, and expect this momentum to be sustained given the ongoing challenges in the geopolitical environment.”
