A historic Northumberland hotel has hailed its “dedicated focus on making moments truly special” after being named as one of the UK’s best vacation venues.
Matfen Hall ranked 13th in The Times and Sunday Times 100 Best Places to Stay in the UK for 2024.
The hotel and country home was praised for its “Game of Thrones-style Great Hall with a staircase built for sword fights” and “a cathedral-scale stained glass window that floods the space with cinematic light”.
The Great Hall recently underwent significant restoration as part of a multi-million-pound investment programme following Walwick Estate Group’s takeover of Matfen Hall, in 2020, from the Blackett family.
In addition to the renovation of the Great Hall, a new bar with mezzanine has been created, with further upgrades to The Cloisters Restaurant and Bar and kitchen.
James O’Donnell, Matfen Hall’s head of commercial development, said: “This recognition is testimony to the team and the ongoing investment into this magnificent hotel.
“We are very pleased to see Matfen Hall so prominently placed in this prestigious guide.
“It’s a great reflection of our dedicated focus on making moments at Matfen Hall truly special.”
